Jessie Murph —
That Ain’t No Man
Rating: 3.6/5 ⭐️
Jessie Murph continues to show just how unique her sound can be on That Ain’t No Man. What I enjoyed most about this album is the different sounds and moods she brings throughout the tracklist. There’s something really distinctive about the way she creates her music, and when it works, it really works.
My personal favorites are “I Could Go Bad,” “Dirty,” and “I Hope It Hurts.” These songs stood out to me the most and are definitely the ones I’ll be coming back to.
However, the album wasn’t completely consistent for me. “High Road” was probably my biggest miss. I just couldn’t get into the country sound of the song at all, and it never really clicked with me.
“Wild Ones” was another song I struggled with. I’m personally not a fan of Jelly Roll, so I wasn’t particularly excited about that collaboration to begin with. On top of that, the song became so overplayed that it eventually became annoying to me, which definitely didn’t help.
At times, I also felt like the album got a little lost. There are some really strong and unique moments, but the album doesn’t always feel completely cohesive from beginning to end. Some tracks grabbed my attention immediately, while others left me feeling a little disconnected.
Overall, That Ain’t No Man has some really great moments and shows Jessie Murph continuing to carve out a sound that feels like her own. It isn’t an album I completely fell in love with from start to finish, but there are definitely enough standout tracks to make it an enjoyable listen.
