Not really a fan of the club beats and probably some Kanye’s least interesting verses. Even though I don’t love this album there are still some cool moments on it, primarily the samples on Otis, and New Day and Murder to Excellence. I never really go back and listen to this as an album but there’s some decent singles. I also just don’t really resonate with the idea of the album.

I felt pretty divided by this album at first but I think it deserves at least an 8/10. My favourite parts about the album were the more upbeat songs, specifically the explosive start and end. As well as some other standout tracks to me such as Monkey Man and Live with Me. There were some lyrics that I didn’t enjoy so much like in Live with Me but the musicality of the song was enjoyable so it redeemed it self. I think I just don’t like Country Honk at all tho. I love the theme of embracing chaos and the grimy nature of the band but I think it just fell short on a couple of songs. I also like the idea of some sounding like they are just drunk at a country bar but I don’t think I would come back to those songs too much.
In the past I probably would have rated this 5 stars. After revisiting it I think I crave a more raw and imperfect sound so I decided to rate it 4/5. Even though I don’t love it as much as I used to there are still amazing qualities about it that I can appreciate, such as the amazing production and mix. The drums cut through the mix so nicely and are layered with electronic samples giving the album a nice blend of rock and pop. The balance of the synths and guitars are also a highlight, the main thing I like about them being the tones. A lot of the synths are super smooth or brassy and then are complimented by a heavy distorted guitar playing a catchy riff.
Just a pretty cool album, there’s nothing that special about it but it’s also consistently good throughout the whole album. Love the collaboration between Kenny Beats and Denzel, there’s a few really good singles on here that I always come back to.
This was one of the most consistently good albums I’ve listened to all the way through. The production and mixing is insane, it sounds very nice on the ears and has a pretty a unique sound. The vocals just have a really nice shine to it and the drums guitar and piano mesh perfectly together as well as the background vocals. The albums is like always groovy, it’s so tight and almost always has a consistent strong backbeat which I really enjoy. The guitar solos are also just immaculate, the distortion hits just right and they feel unique and unexpected as if they are improvising while also just being tight and memorable.
Really enjoyed how smooth this whole album sounds. The lyrics and delivery feel so powerful and soulful and feel like they just hover over the instrumental, it feels very relaxing. I can really see how this became a classic at the time considering what was going on in the world.
Going into this I thought it would be rated an 8 based on how I remember it. This time while listening I realised that there were a bunch of really good songs that hit but there were also just some slower more boring songs that kind of ruined the momentum. They didn’t really have a clear idea established and were kinda just improvised guitar with super loose vocals and some drums and bass.
This is just a very solid hardcore album. It has very memorable songs with catchy lyrics but also they all have an aggressive drive that just always hits. The singers voice has such a strong Australian accent that just sounds super grimy and quite unique compared to other albums in this genre outside of Australia.
In my humble opinion this is an epic masterpiece. It feels like a massive larger than life project. The features, the production, the sampling all come together to create an album worthy of being played to thousands of people at stadiums around the world.
This whole album sounds like it is from the perspective of a Disney villain I think it is very unique. The production is also very distinct with a mix of orchestral instruments, drum machines and auto tune. I know this album was very influential for its time but I think compared to other Kanye albums this one feels a little dated. The songs at the core still are pretty good and they always make you feel something. There are a couple of skips towards the end of the album.
I can definitely hear the Beatles inspiration on this one. It feels like the album heavily expanded on ideas introduced in Inner Speaker and just made a tracklist full of more hits and cool ideas with the same production and structure. I love the first stretch of the album it has a lot of good singles and I think it becomes less memorable as the album goes on. I was surprised by Suns Coming Up as it sounds straight off of Revolver and Kevin Parker isn’t doing his signature falsetto. Really enjoy this album.
Definitely one of the most surprising albums of recent times. It’s such a creative blend of genres. The influence of Dark Side of the Moon is very obvious and other psychedelic rock artists such as Tame Impala. While this genre is a very far stretch from Yachtys previous music, it still sounds like it is grounded in his hip hop roots which I think would have been a very challenging thing to create but the finished product sounds very good. When this first released I thought it was hilarious that he just randomly released this banger psych rock album.
Definitely one of the greatest albums I’ve heard, it’s been in my album rotation for years. I think this album perfectly encapsulates having an ‘experience’ while listening to music. The production and the transitions between songs make the album feel like one giant song with multiple climaxes, changes and breakdowns. I don’t think this album will ever get old to me.
Very cool album, did a couple of listens and realised there were a lot of memorable songs. I think this is one of those albums that get better over time. I really enjoy the orchestral vibes on this, I picture a parade for an American holiday where they are playing these songs.
Massively overrated album. The only times it slightly redeemed itself was when the tempo sped up and they started playing guitar riffs. Other than that, the album was boring and his voice sounded pretty bad. There’s like 2-3 good singles on here but also one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard which was ironically saying over and over when will it end lol.
I was gonna give this review a 9. Upon looking back over the tracklist I have no other option but to give it a 10.
This was my least favourite Kanye album for a while until I gave it another chance. I realised I actually really liked a lot of the songs, and it works so well as a continuation from The College Dropout.
This was one of the last albums I listened to of Kanye’s discography and it didn’t disappoint. I had a phase of listening to this album on repeat, there’s so many good songs that I know a lot of the lyrics to, 9/10.
This is still such a great album but still will never be as good as Nevermind. The album has almost no skips but I just think it’s pretty overshadowed. I think people who prefer a looser, more raw and dirty sound would prefer this album.
Come on it’s Nirvana no words needed.
My favourite song on this is Sweet Thing and I don’t like much else on the album. All the songs feel drawn out too long and like they are just repeating the same lines over and over. I only really gave it 2.5 stars because I can appreciate the songwriting but as an album all the songs just blend together and nothing surprises me. Also I’m not really a fan of folk music in general. I think I like sweet thing because it’s very structured with a hi hat beat and has the descending strings motif and is pretty rememberable.
Had to listen to this multiple times for it to connect. The lyrics are quite complex and need a lot of attention to take in completely. I feel like the lyrics are so powerful in the way that it portrays Nick Drakes feelings. I searched up the meaning of each song as I listened to it and found so many dark interpretations of inevitability, loneliness and the struggles within.
Thought this album was straight out of the 90s, was so surprised when I saw it came out in the 70s. I don’t really have any complaints, the album doesn’t have a lot of substance it’s kinda just an easy listen of disrtorted guitar riffs, although I do really like the addition of piano on some of the tracks. I think it just meshes really nicely with the guitars.
This entire album has such a loose and unpredictable structure which I really enjoyed. The experimental 80s sounding instruments mesh so well with the guitar, synths and percussion. It creates a swirling psychedelic artwork in my head. Everything about the guitar is perfect, the tones are amazing and the way he plays with so much dynamic range means he can just improvise for so long as other instruments come and go from the spotlight and keep it interesting.
Honestly kind of underwhelming of a Beatles album to me especially this the album is always rated so highly. I felt like the tracks were a bit of a mess going between too many different ideas and not settling on a specific sound. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy most of the songs on here, I think it just feels like a collection of singles rather than an album. I noticed this in the first three tracks and then in the middle it sort of goes 1 for 1 with a more rock oriented track and then a more experimental one. I still enjoy listening to the songs but feels a little overrated to me. Maybe my opinion will change.
I feel like this should be the bench mark for psych rock. I got into Tame Impala from his later projects so this album was never super special to me. But going back and listening to this after a while really surprised me how good it was. I realised Desire be Desire go was also on the self titled EP with a different mix. Overall pretty solid and isn’t overshadowed by his later projects I think.
Listened to the album so many times at this point and it still slaps. The vintage production is what makes it so special. I love the idea of having a persona for an album it feels very iconic and gives the songwriting a different perspective.
No skips, perfect album. Every song has such a nice charm to it. They all have key moments that all blend together so it feels like 1 huge song with many changes throughout. I think because they all sound sonically the same with the iconic Strokes garage sound. I listened to this album all the way through so many times by now.
Listened to this the first time and was not vibing and just couldn’t connect with it. Everything about it just put me off, like the mix, the cover and the arrangements. I heard Waiting For my Man covered by Geese and decided to give it another chance. When I listened again it felt like a way different album, it was just more enjoyable overall. I think I can start to appreciate the innovation a bit more, still need a few more listens to really appreciate it more.
Listened to the album multiple times and always enjoyed it. There were a few stand out tracks that I think were a lot better than the rest. I Wanna be Adored is such a good song holy shit, I heard this at the pre show for Geese and thought it was saying I Wanna be Your Dog lol. The psychedelic garage sounding rock is what draws me into this and I think the super poppy vocals bring the rating slightly down from what it could be.
No skips on this album. All the experimental sounds on this is what makes it special. I’ve always enjoyed it no matter when I listen to it.
Most of this album is not a super easy listen. It took me a few listens to get through it but not because I was bored, it just takes a lot of attention to really appreciate what’s going on. The lyrics feel so weird like a fever dream and paint a really strange picture in my mind that I haven’t really felt from music before. The singles associated are also very good, my favourite being Take it with You, it gives me the chills.
This felt like a pretty solid pop album with a lot of character. All the tunes are pretty catchy and it has the iconic Strokes vintage sound to it. Felt like a pretty realistic progression of the Strokes and what they would sound like in the modern day. Reminded me a bit of Currents by Tame Impala.
This definitely feels like an extension to the Glow On album. It feels very similar to the mix of heavy guitar with beautiful synths. I think there was more emphasis on the synths in this album tho. Will definitely need to listen again a few more times but thoroughly enjoyed the first listen.
The first hardcore album is listened to that I actually really enjoyed. This was on repeat in the gym for a while. The best part of the album is the mix of drive and grit with whimsy synthesisers making the album really feel like a modern punk rock album.
Not a tonne of diversity but all the songs still hit. I kinda found some parts of it funny such as hitting the boy with the baseball bat. A great album despite all the song sounding similar.
Obviously a classic album. I didn’t realise just how many hits there are on this. There are so many standout tracks to me on the first half of the album. The second half is a bit more forgettable but the idea of it being unfinished tracks that sorta blend together grew on me. I feel like there’s so many different songs on here that could be peoples favourites. For me I like Something, Oh Darling, She’s so Heavy, You Never give me your Money.
Not bad but not amazing either. I think it’s a pretty standard psych rock EP. The production and instrumentals carry so hard. I don’t love Kevin’s voice on it and some of the lyrics feel a bit awkward but maybe that was the intention who knows.
Same deal with Wolf except there’s probably less tracks on here that I like. Except for Schmuckers which is my favourite Tyler song. This song carried the album in my opinion as well as the Kanye feature.
Overall a pretty good album despite there being a few misses. The production and the humour and the creative rhymes are what make this album good.
Such a classic album in my personal listening. Played this on repeat for years and it had a very soothing effect on me. My favourite song on this is Good News which tells a very touching story and was magnified with Mac Millers death. The production overall on the album is also very good, I love the singer song writing side of him.
I didn’t want to give it 5 stars originally because I saw the reviews and I didn’t wanna glaze it just because everyone else rated it so highly. Except when I listened to it all the way through I literally had no complaints. It’s the best singer songwriter album I’ve heard to be honest. Lover you should have come over is like one of the greatest songs I’ve ever heard.
I enjoyed the album and there were a lot of cool riffs and moments. I love the riff on Friction and the bridge on Marquee Moon. Apparently it was rated very highly by others. Although I can see how it is held in such high regards and how classic of a punk rock album it is, the only thing really bringing it down to a 4 is that I don’t love the album sonically.
So many timeless classics in this album. The only thing dragging it down half a star is a couple of songs I didn’t love. (Never going back Again, Oh Daddy). The rest of the album is so good, my favourite song is The Chain especially with the second half of the song. The whole album just has such a nice charm and warm optimistic feeling about love.
Absolutely insane album, the instrumentals on these are perfect. I love the complex guitar arps and the rhythmic drive. The lyrics paint such a vivid picture in my head that is so well supported by the music. I love the idea of creating a motif that is explored throughout the whole album see with things like jigsaws and playing cards, and using them as metaphors to explain Thom Yorkes feelings of going around in circles and feeling out of it.
This album is so good, I love the vintage sound of the whole album it makes me feel nostalgic of a time I wasn’t even born for. The warm vintage sound is so iconic to the Strokes sound. The simplicity of the music adds to it being such an easy but enjoyable listen. No skips.
This was the first Tyler album I listened to. I love most of the vintage sounding beats and modulated instrumentation. Except some of the beats can sound a bit dry and boring. The guitars and keys and strings are all so sick and fit so well with the album. I feel like Tyler has such a distinct sound when it comes to beats that it’s hard to make something like it that isn’t a complete rip off.
The first time I listened to it the album kind of became background music. I listened to it a couple more times. There was a fair amount of songs I really liked such as Miss You, Just my Imagination and Beas of Burden. I think the album is a nice easy listen but some of the song structures and themes weren’t the coolest thing to me, such as Some Girls. I still enjoyed the album for what it was.
This album was recommended to me by Dylan who said it was better than the old Kanye albums. I didn’t believe him at first but then I started to love it so much. The beats are definitely my favourite aspect, I’m Feelin It stuck out to me the most on the album. I also love the lyricism and his vocal delivery.
I listened to this as I heard Tower of Song and really liked it and it was one of Cameron Winters influences. I felt like the album was a bit boring at times. Even though he has a cool voice sometimes it just felt slow and like it had no groove to it. Although when his voice is harmonised with soul vocals I thought that made it really stand out and improved it a lot with the contrast. My favourite song is Tower of Song and Ain’t no Cure for Love.
