i wish, every day, that taylor stuck with this sound. folkore is one of the best releases of the decade, and i mourn its beauty and strengths and emotional power. i love this album and all it provided through the dread of the pandemic. one of my favourites of all time, such a beautifully organised and produced album.

folklore is quiet introspection turned into atmosphere. Restrained, literary, and emotionally muted, the album marks a deliberate departure from pop spectacle toward storytelling and mood. It’s less about confession and more about observation; feelings seen from a distance rather than lived in real time. Sonically, the album leans into indie folk, soft alternative, and minimalist production. Piano, acoustic guitars, and muted textures dominate, creating a hushed, cohesive soundscape. The production is elegant and tasteful, but intentionally low-impact, prioritizing calm over momentum. Lyrically, folklore focuses on fictional narratives, memory, regret, and emotional abstraction. Taylor writes with poetic intent, favoring imagery and suggestion over immediacy. While the craftsmanship is undeniable, the emotional connection can feel distant, as if the listener is reading stories rather than inhabiting them. The album earns 3.7 stars for its artistic ambition and consistency, but it stops short of higher ratings due to emotional uniformity. The subdued tone, while immersive, causes several tracks to blur together, reducing memorability and replay urgency. folklore is refined, thoughtful, and beautifully composed, a strong artistic pivot that values subtlety over impact.
